Lamplighter Award given to those fostering the light of truth in a dark world:
To Faithful Priests who follow in the
footsteps of St. John Vianney, patron of parish priests. You'll know who
they are by these signs. They spend many hours in front of the Blessed
Sacrament. They preach in accordance with the teachings of the Church
not avoiding the hard issues like abortion, contraception, and the indissolubility
of marriage. They don't mess with the Mass, but follow the rubrics faithfully
and avoid "performing." They promote Confession, they love the Blessed
Mother, and encourage the rosary. Charity and humility mark their actions
rather than pride and human respect. Parishes are blessed that have such
priests. May Mother Mary hold these faithful sons close to her heart.
Despite what we read in the papers, there are many holy priests serving
God's people.
Millstone Award given to those who through ignorance or malice scandalize God's people:
To Unfaithful Priests and Bishops
who fail to defend the faith or protect the
flock. Let all the faithful fast and pray for their souls. May the laity
always love our priests. May our prayers be an abundant source of grace
that aids them in winning many souls for Christ. May our sacrifices help
them to be faithful to their vows that they might grow in holiness and
virtue and save many souls. And may we faithfully persevere in praying
for them throughout our journey on earth.
