AWARDSLamplighter Award given to those fostering the light of truth in a dark world: To Msgr. Thaddeus Malanowski who has tirelessly ministered to Terri Schiavo and the Schindler family even under threat of arrest for bringing Terri the body of Christ. St. Miguel Pro, martyr for the faith, pray for him. Viva Christo Rey To Fr. Rob Johansen who left the ninety-nine sheep of his Michigan flock to help the little one in danger from wolves in Florida. We ask his parish patron, St. Joseph, to strengthen him in service to the Schindler family. To Fr. David Mullen pastor of St. Brendan’s in Bellingham, Massachusetts who wrote to Bishop Sean O’Malley refusing to implement the infamous Talking About Touching sex program. (See The Wanderer 10/16). Father reminded the bishop to “stand in the door of the sheepfold and not let the wolves in.” May martyr of purity Maria Goretti pray for this bold guardian of the faith. Millstone Award given to those who through ignorance or malice scandalize God's people: To Bishop Robert Lynch whose moral neutrality and silence betrayed Terri to the culture of death. May St. Teresa Benedicta, murdered at Auschwitz, pray that he might become a zealous defender of the weak of his flock. To the Florida Catholic Conference whose flawed statement did little to defend Terri. Their failure to protect the innocent has scandalized the faithful and further tarnished the reputation of Holy Mother Church. May St. Anthony Mary Claret who served his diocese with zeal and without rest and imitated the poverty of the Good Shepherd intercede for his brother bishops. To Fr. Kevin O’Rourke, O.P. & Fr. Kevin Wildes, S.J. who publicly endorsed Terri’s killing in the Miami Herald and on Nightline respectively. O’Rourke also promoted the 1990 dehydration murder of Nancy Cruzan whose father, Joe, later hanged himself. May the Good Shepherd have mercy on these men who make themselves gods over life and death. |
